The cabinet press service has announced that Estonian Government to allocate funds for Russian-language TV channel in the country.

TALLINN, November 21 (Sputnik) – The Estonian government has approved the creation of a Russian-language TV channel in the country, instructing the Ministry of Finance to take care of the funding, the cabinet press service has announced.

"At a government meeting, a proposal of the Estonian TV and radio broadcasting corporation (ERR) was heard on the establishment of a Russian-language TV channel, which requires four million euros per year," the press service said in a statement released Thursday evening, after the meeting.

"The government approved the creation of the channel and instructed the ministries of finance and culture to find sources of financing," the statement said.

Earlier this year, the Latvian government upheld an initiative to create a Baltic-wide TV channel for the Russian-speaking minority. Lithuania and Estonia have expressed their support for the project, but no deadlines have been set for its implementation.
