DONETSK, November 6 (RIA Novosti) – Fighting erupted in a suburb of the eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk Thursday as the Kiev government troops deployed tanks there, Donetsk self-defense forces told RIA Novosti.
“A column of tanks has entered Yasynuvata, nearby districts are being shelled,” a self-defense forces source said.
The fighting comes a day after the Kiev government officials reiterated their commitment to the ceasefire regime in the conflict-hit east.
Following a February coup in Kiev, Donetsk and Luhansk residents established people's republics that later declared their independence. In April, Ukrainian forces launched a military operation against the regions' independence supporters.
A ceasefire was agreed upon at a meeting of the so-called Contact Group on Ukraine held in Minsk on September 5. Another meeting of the Contact Group on September 19 resulted in a memorandum specifying the implementation of the ceasefire.
Since the establishment of the truce, both sides have accused each other of numerous violations.
According to the United Nations, more than 4,000 people have been killed in the fighting.
