Ukrainian forces used incendiary weapons during recent shelling in Donetsk, according to deputy commander of the Donetsk People's Republic militia Eduard Basurin.

DONETSK, November 4 (RIA Novosti) — Ukrainian forces used incendiary weapons as fighting resumed Monday night near the Donetsk airport, deputy commander of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) militia Eduard Basurin told RIA Novosti Tuesday.

"There have been applied incendiary [weapons] in the area near the Oktyabrskaya mine and the Putilov bridge [which connects the city to the airport], a five-storey building has been damaged. What is interesting is that it has earlier been damaged in shootouts, it was recently restored after the ceasefire," Basurin said.

The Ukrainian forces' shelling has also destroyed four houses in the Kievsky and Kuibyshev districts of Donetsk, he added.

According to the militia, "artillery duels" and battles with armored vehicles continued in the city of Kirovske.

"As a result of the shelling by security forces in Kirovske, three houses have been destroyed, one person is killed and three have sustained injuries," the militia's headquarters informed.

In addition, shootings took place near the city of Horlivka. According to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, three soldiers sustained injuries.

In the village of Frunze in the west of the Luhansk region, near the Donetsk border, the militia has surrounded some 80 soldiers, a tank, two armored personnel carriers and a mortar. "The forces tried to reach the surrounded checkpoint from the village of Toshkivka, an artillery battle broke out. The attack was repulsed. During the forces' shelling, buildings in Pervomaisk, Irmino and Frunze were damaged. In Frunze, a railway and a power line have also been damaged," the militia's headquarters said.

In mid-April, Kiev authorities launched a military operation against independence supporters in eastern Ukraine. The conflicting sides reached a ceasefire agreement at a September 5 meeting of the trilateral Contact Group on Ukraine in Minsk. A memorandum specifying the implementation of the ceasefire was adopted at another Contact Group meeting on September 19.

Both sides have subsequently accused each other of violating the truce. The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe's special monitoring mission in the conflict-torn regions continues to report instances of shelling.
