Russia-developed technology that uses additives based on carbon nanotubes in the energy saving sphere, will enable the country to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by 160-180 million metric tons by 2030, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Monday, citing experts' estimates.

PARIS (Sputnik) — Speaking at the 21st UN Climate Change Conference in Paris, Putin noted that by 2030 Russia intends to decrease its greenhouse gas emissions by up to 70 percent, based on 1990 levels.

"Russia has developed a technology for using additives based on carbon nanotubes. According to the experts, using this technology in Russia alone will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 160-180 million metric tons by 2030. Of course, we are open to knowledge sharing of similar developments," Putin said.

Paris is currently hosting the 21st UN Climate Change Conference, due to run until December 11. Some 140 world leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Barack Obama, are expected to reach an agreement to address global warming and cut carbon emissions.
