WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The 41 projects will include developing a high efficiency alkaline water electrolyzers for grid scale energy storage, as well as new capabilities to reduce the cost of cross-flow design marine hydrokinetic systems where turbines help to generate power from tides and rives.
“The ARPA-E [Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy] projects selected today highlight how American ingenuity can spur innovation and generate a wide range of technology options to address our nation’s most pressing energy issues,” US Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz said in the statement on Monday.
Moniz explained the energy technologies would “provide the solutions needed to combat climate change and develop a global low-carbon economy in the future.”
On November 30, representatives from hundreds of countries will meet in Le Bourget, France to take part in the UN Climate Conference, where participants will address global warming and ways to limit greenhouse gas emissions.
