Tehran and Rome are teaming up to exchange experience in different fields of biodiversity and protect the environment.

MOSCOW, November 26 (Sputnik) — Iran and Italy have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Rome, Italy, aimed at promoting cooperation on environmental issues, Press TV reported Wednesday.

The accord put in the forefront a reciprocal commitment to boost "training and education, exchange of information, exchange of experiences in different fields of biodiversity, in the fields of water, air, soil, in the fields of marine biodiversity. We have many issues which are common between our two countries," Massoumeh Ebtekar, Iranian Vice President and Head of the Department of the Environment told Press TV.

"It (the MoU) indicates that countries like Iran and Italy are working to pursue clear environmental objectives […] for the benefit of our planet, for the benefit of our future," Ebtekar added.

During her visit to Rome, the Iranian senior official invited Italian experts and companies to participate in the 14th International Environment Exhibition scheduled for next March in Iran.

The cooperation agreement is a "strong signal" that Italy is eager to collaborate with other states on issues of vital importance such as environment, the Italian Environment Minister Gianluca Galletti said, as quoted by Press TV.

Before this visit, on December 21, 2013, Italian Foreign Minister Emma Bonino held a meeting with Ebtekar in Tehran, which paved the way for signing the memorandum of understanding on mutual cooperation in the spheres of air, energy and water.
