MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, Moscow Deputy Mayor for Economic Policy Natalia Sergunina and President of Siemens in Russia and Central Asia Dietrich Moeller signed an agreement providing for the possibility of opening a production facility in the Russian capital.
"Hopefully, there will be new jobs in the city," Sergunina said.
Siemens AG is the largest engineering company in Europe with numerous branch offices abroad. The company has been in Russia for over 160 years, and has strong ties with government and industry. Its first bureau in the country was opened in St. Petersburg in 1853.
In Russia, Siemens has been developing in its traditional areas of activity, namely industry, energy and healthcare.
Following the introduction of the Western sanctions against Russia in 2014 over the Ukrainian crisis, Siemens AG President and CEO Joe Kaeser said that the company planned to continue its cooperation with Russia despite the restrictive measures imposed on Moscow.
