The minister noted that Russia, China and India were the largest AIIB's shareholders.

In May, Russian President Vladimir Putin met AIIB President Jin Liqun to discuss the appointment of a vice president, among other issues. Russia's trade representative in China Alexei Gruzdev was named as a candidate for the post.

The AIIB, an international financial institution proposed by China to invest in infrastructure projects in the Asia-Pacific region, was created in October 2014 and currently has 57 founding members.
