Coca Cola FEMSA is partially resuming operations in Venezuela as it has received a new sugar shipment, the company said in a statement.

MEXICO CITY (Sputnik) – The company’s plants in Antimano and Valencia will be resuming work after a raw sugar shipment was received.

"Our goal is to optimize the distribution from the center of the country in order to meet the requirements of most customers and consumers throughout the national territory," the company said as quoted by El Financiero on Thursday.

Coca-cola, which struggles with declining soda consumption in the US, is working with fitness and nutrition experts who suggest its cola as a healthy treat. - Sputnik International
Coca-Cola Suspending Production in Venezuela Due to Lack of Sugar

According to Coca Cola FEMSA, its operations in Venezuela depend on the future stability of sugar deliveries.

Coca-Cola FEMSA suspended its production in Venezuela over a lack of sugar in May.

According to the company, 90 percent of the products it produces require sugar.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro declared an economic emergency in Venezuela in January. Venezuela’s opposition has blamed Maduro for the economic crisis in the country.

Earlier this month, mass protests were held in Venezuela’s capital amid shortages of food, goods and services.
