"I would like to be very clear: there will be no success, if it [the agreement] provides no guarantees to French citizens' health and environmental standards at the current level," Valls stated at an environment conference, as quoted by Les Echos newspaper.
TTIP’s stated goal is to ease the flow of goods and services across the Atlantic.
The US-promoted accord has come under heavy criticism for secretive negotiations between the partner countries and concerns for dumping health, national sovereignty and employment regulations in favor of corporate profit.
Talks on the TTIP agreement have been ongoing since 2013. The 13th round of EU-US talks on the deal kicked off in New York on Monday. A draft of the full text of the agreement is expected before the end of the year.
