Turkey plans to conclude a bilateral trade agreement with Ecuador in the near future, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said.

MEXICO CITY (Sputnik) – Erdogan, who is on an official visit to Ecuador, met with Ecuador’s President Rafael Correa on Thursday.

Speaking at the Ecuador-Turkey Business Forum, Erdogan said that the trade volume between the two countries could soon reach $500 million, or even $1 billion. The Turkish president added that "the trade agreement negotiations…should be finalized as soon as possible."

Correa confirmed to reporters on Thursday that the trade agreement with Turkey will be signed, although he did not give a specific time frame.

Erdogan started his Latin American tour on January 31, with the Turkish leader’s trip to Ecuador being the first in the history of Turkey’s relations with the country.
