BELGRADE (Sputnik) – Serbia plans on paying its debt to Russian energy giant Gazprom in the amount of 20 billion euros by the end of the year, Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said Friday.
“Serbia’s debt of 20 billion before Gazprom will be paid by the end of the year,” Vucic said during a joint press conference with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Belgrade.
In a separate project, Russia and Serbia are planning to extend the Serbian underground gas storage facility Banatski Dvor, which is one of the largest of its kind in southeastern Europe and plays an important role in ensuring the stability of Russian gas supplies to European customers.
Last month, the Serbian ambassador to Russia said an agreement to double Banatski Dvor's capacity to potentially store up to 1 billion cubic meters of natural gas could be signed by Moscow and Belgrade by the end of 2015.
