Volkswagen Denies New US Government Allegations of Violating Clean Air Act

Volkswagen Group claims that the company has not been installing cheating software in its three-liter engines to bypass EPA standards.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Volkswagen Group has not been installing cheating software in its three-liter engines to bypass US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards, according to a statement issued by the company.

“Volkswagen AG wishes to emphasize that no software has been installed in the 3-liter filer V6 diesel power units to alter emissions characteristics in a forbidden manner,” the statement read on Monday.

In October, a number of high-ranking officials of the German concern resigned or were suspended after the EPA accused Volkswagen of knowingly installing defective software in cars with diesel engines to mask emission results tests.

Earlier on Monday, the EPA issued a second notice of violation to all companies that operate under Volkswagen group, including the Porsche Cars North America and Audi.

The German concern acknowledged that it has received the notice.

“Volkswagen will cooperate fully with the EPA clarify this matter in its entirety,” the statement said.

Since 2014, about 10,000 diesel passenger cars have been sold in the United States, according to the EPA.
