The IT company Parallels launched project "Rosplatform" seeking to design a Russian cloud platform to substitute Microsoft Azure and Amazon Cloud and provide "technological sovereignty from the US".

Currently the share of foreign-made software, including US programs, exceeds 75 percent in Russia, equaling to $1.4 billion, which is becoming "an unacceptable risk," the developers underscored.

Russians will own 50 percent of the Rosplatfrom shares.

The company plans to spend over $16 million on its project by the end of 2016, attract nearly the same amount in investments and reach self-sufficiency by 2018. After 2020 Rosplatform's annual turnover is expected to surpass $50 million and its surplus will likely stand at $8 million.

The products of the new enterprise will conform to the legislation slated to come to force on January 1, 2016. According to the new law, state institutions will have to report their purchase of foreign software.
