The United States has imposed sanctions on a number of Syrian and Turkish front companies and individuals, providing the Syrian government with oil and gas products, the US Treasury Department announced on Monday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — In total, the Treasury Department imposed sanctions on seven entities and four individuals.

“The US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control today took action against the international networks responsible for providing energy products used by the [Syrian President Bashar] Assad regime to continue fueling the ongoing conflict in Syria,” the Treasury Department said.

The sanctions target Syrian and Turkish front companies and the individuals managing them for seeking to evade sanctions against the Abdulkarim Group and Syrian Petroleum Marketing Department. The two entities were previously placed on the US sanctions lists.

The companies allegedly provided liquefied natural gas and oilgas to the Syrian government.

Milenyum Energy, a Panama-registered company operating in Turkey by Turkish nationals, was one company targeted for facilitating the purchase and shipment of energy supplies to the Syrian government through the Abdulkarim Group.
