WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Earlier on Tuesday, Iran and the P5+1 group of world powers, including China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States and Germany, agreed to extend the joint plan of action on Tehran’s nuclear program until July 7 to allow more time for a comprehensive solution, according to the Treasury.
“The US Government (USG) hereby extends the JPOA [Joint Plan of Action] sanctions relief provided on November 25, 2014…through July 7,” the statement read.
Sources close to the nuclear negotiations told Sputnik on Tuesday that Iran and the United States had reached some progress on the issue of removing sanctions against the Islamic Republic.
The West has imposed the anti-Tehran sanctions as it believed Iran was trying to develop nuclear weapons under the guise of a civilian nuclear program. The Islamic Republic has repeatedly denied those allegations.
