The European Commission looks forward to the lifting of the US ban on the export of natural gas to the EU member states, Vice-President for Energy Union Maros Sefcovic said on Tuesday.

EU Chief Negotiator Urges TTIP Deal to Continue Despite Protests
BRUSSELS (Sputnik) — The prospect of EU gas imports from the United States ultimately depends on the progress in the negotiations on Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), Sefcovic said at the opening session of the EU Energy Security Conference 2015.

The TTIP is a proposed trade and investment agreement between the United States and the European Union.

The US oil and gas companies currently require a special license issued by Washington to supply natural gas abroad. Meanwhile, natural gas licenses are granted automatically for nations with free trade agreements.

“We, of course, would very much welcome the lifting of the ban of export of the gas products from the United States to Europe.”

European and US partners have already held nine rounds of talks on the transatlantic free-trade pact. The free-trade zone would link US-EU economies, which together account for about 40 percent of total world gross domestic product.
