MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Google has lost a bid to the UK Court of Appeal on Friday, intended to prevent customers in the United Kingdom from suing the company for privacy breach, the BBC reported Friday.
In 2013, more than 100 Brits participated in a lawsuit against Google, suing the company for tracking the online habits of iPhone users.
"Google loses Court of Appeal bid to prevent British customers having the right to sue it in the UK," the broadcaster said.
At the time, the company said that the case should be considered in California where the Google corporate headquarters is situated.
It was the first time when Google faced a group claim relating to privacy concerns in the United Kingdom. Claimant lawyers requested Google reveal information on what personal data was secretly gathered, how it was used by the company and for how long this practice had been going on.
Google faced similar charges in the United States and was fined $22.5 million for a privacy breach in 2011-2012.
