STRELNYA (Sputnik) — The task of adapting Kyrgyzstan's economy to the conditions of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) is achievable, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Monday at a meeting with his Kyrgyz counterpart.
"The ultimate goal is to adapt the economy of Kyrgyzstan to the economies of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia. Certainly, this is a solvable task and the faster we do it, the better," Putin said.
On Monday, Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev arrived in St. Petersburg to hold bilateral talks with Putin.
Kyrgyzstan was accepted to the EEU last December, with its membership coming into force this May.
The EEU is an economic integration comprising five former Soviet republics of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Armenia, established on January 1, 2015. The union aims to achieve the free flow of goods, services, capital and labor across its member countries.
