Kiev Transfers $15 Million to Gazprom for Five Days of Gas
MOSCOW (Sputnik) Russian energy giant Gazprom has received another $15 million in advance gas payments from Ukraine, the company's spokesman, Sergei Kupriyanov, said Friday.

“Naftogaz has paid another $15 million, providing themselves with Russian gas deliveries until mid-March,” he said. “According to Naftogaz calculations – with the Donbas region excluded – advance payments cover the delivery of 63.3 million cubic meters as of today.”

Kiev’s previous advance payments for March totaled $30 million.

Gazprom cut gas deliveries to Ukraine last summer, citing Kiev's debt of over $5 billion at the time. Gas deliveries were renewed in December 2014, under a so-called winter package deal. The deal, that expires in April, requires advance payment from Kiev for the discounted price of $100 per 1,000 cubic meters of gas.

On February 25, Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed Moscow would suspend gas deliveries to Ukraine unless Kiev made a further prepayment.

On Monday, Russia, Ukraine and the European Commission held talks in Brussels on future gas deliveries to Ukraine.

After the meeting, Russia's Energy Minister Alexander Novak said that Moscow and Kiev would continue discussing terms for summer gas supplies in late March.
