ANKARA, (Sputnik) Turkey's food exports to Russia reached record highs in 2014, particularly in the meat industry, where it grew tenfold, Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov told RIA Novosti.

"The export of some Turkish products to Russia has reached record levels. In January-November 2014 the deliveries of meat products to Russia increased by 10 times as compared to 2013, fish [product export grew] two times, vegetable [export increased] by 10 percent," Karlov said.

According to the ambassador, Russia started delivering products to Turkey that the country never imported before, such as milk and eggs.

The trade turnover between Russia and Turkey exceeded $30 billion by the end of 2014, Karlov estimated.

In August 2014, Moscow introduced a one-year ban on the import of some food products from the United States, the European Union and other countries that had imposed economic sanctions against Russia over its alleged involvement in the Ukrainian conflict. The list of banned products includes meat, poultry, fish, seafood, dairy products, fruit and vegetables.

Turkey did not join the anti-Russia sanctions and thus gained an opportunity to broaden its export to the country.
