Syriza’s Yanis Varoufakis pledged to destroy the Triangle of Sin, "an unholy alliance of bankrupt bankers, developers, and the media owners," plaguing Greece.

MOSCOW, January 26 (Sputnik) – Syriza’s Yanis Varoufakis, an outspoken economist who is rumored to become the next finance minister of Greece, pledged to destroy what he calls the Triangle of Sin, plaguing the country, after the left-wing and anti-austerity party scored a landslide victory in the parliamentary elections.

In an interview with Channel 4, Varoufakis pledged to destroy the "unholy alliance [of] bankrupt bankers, developers, and the media owners, who become the voice of those who want to sponge and scrounge of the productive effort of everyone else."

He also promised to tackle the oligarchy in the country. "We are going to destroy the basis upon which they [the oligarchs] have built, for decade after decade, a system and network that viciously sucks the energy and economic power from everybody else in society," he told Channel 4.

Syriza’s leader Alexis Tsipras, who has been sworn in as the Greek prime minister, is expected to unveil his cabinet on Tuesday. A high-ranking Syriza member told Reuters that Varoufakis will be named the country’s finance minister.

"This is the decision, anything else would be a surprise," the unnamed official said. The information was also confirmed by two other officials from the party.

In a statement published on his official blog, Varoufakis, a professor of economics at the University of Athens, said that "the time for crisis-denial, retribution and finger-pointing" in Greece is now over. Instead, "reinvigoration of the ideals of freedom, rationality, democratic process and justice has come in the continent that invented them," the economist said.
