Ukraine’s Naftogaz Says $1.65 Billion of Debt to Gazprom Covered
MOSCOW, January 23 (Sputnik) Russian energy giant Gazprom received an additional $70 million from Ukraine’s Naftogaz for January deliveries, Gazprom’s press agency said Friday.

In December, Gazprom received $150 million from Naftogaz as a prepayment for expected gas deliveries for January.

Ukraine plans to purchase some one billion cubic meters of gas from Gazprom for the month of January. According to Naftogaz, the company had made pre-payments for this volume in total, including unused supplies received in December 2014.

After an almost six-month break, Russia resumed gas deliveries to Ukraine on December 9, 2014, following a payment of $3.1 billion by Kiev for its large gas debt. The "winter package" gas delivery agreement stipulates that Ukraine pay for future supplies in advance.

Gazprom anticipates that Kiev will pay the remainder of its debt. On Tuesday, Gazprom head Alexei Miller told Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev that current Naftogaz debt to Gazprom is estimated at $2.44 billion, adding that Gazprom sent Kiev a letter regarding this issue.
