Russia is ready to supply oilseeds and biofuel, including ethanol, as well as game and aquaculture products to the European Union, Deputy Agriculture Minister Alexander Petrikov said on Monday.
The European market is attractive for Russia due to its proximity and high prices. "Russia could become a supplier of oilseeds, oil, biodiesel and ethanol as alternative fuel, cattle and goat meat, game and aquaculture products to the European union in the future," Petrikov told an agricultural forum.
Russian imported $8.522 billion worth of European foodstuffs more than it exported, Petrikov said. Europe has only certified eight Russian companies compared to 3,600 European enterprises authorized to supply food to Russia.
Huge government subsidies to EU agribusiness is another reason for concern, Petrikov said, with subsidies to European farmers amounting to 22.24 percent of sales income, while Russian subsidies amount to 13-15 percent.
Russian grain exports are curbed by low quotas for the supply of low protein grain to Europe which amounted to 2.3 million tons for all states, excluding the United States and Canada, Petrikov said.
