KAZAKHSTAN AND TAJIKISTAN CONFIDENTLY ADVANCE TOWARDS STABLE DEVELOPMENT OF ECONOMY

MOSCOW, September 21 (RIA Novosti) - In 2007 Kazakhstan intends to ensure an 8.7% average annual growth rate of gross domestic product in the country, Kazakhstan's Prime Minister Danial Akhmetov stated at the EurAsEC - Business America international congress in Moscow on Tuesday.

According to him, by 2007 the republic intends to set the average annual inflation rate at 4-6.5%. By that time Kazakhstan intends to switch its financial system over to the European standards, and to complete the work to restructure the natural monopolies. To enter the WTO also by 2007 is the prime task of the republic.

"On the whole, the mapped-out measures will allow Kazakhstan to enter a trajectory of stable development of the economy," Mr. Akhmetov said.

He noted that Kazakhstan is now capable of becoming an investor. According to Mr. Akhmetov, projects of making investments in Tajikistan's economy are already being worked out.

Speaking of the forthcoming meeting of the EurAsEC interstate council at the level of heads of government, Mr. Akhmetov noted that a number of questions of integration within the Community and, in particular, single rules for reducing withdrawals from the regime of free trade with other CIS countries would be considered at the meeting.

For his part, Prime Minister of Tajikistan Akil Akilov noted that "today Tajikistan has registered notable successes in the transition to the market economy." According to him, the necessary normative-legal base has been built in the republic, laws on foreign investments have been adopted, and the work to improve the tax legislation is going on."

Mr. Akilov said that GDP grew by 11.7% over 8 months of this year. The pursuance of the monetary-credit policy made it possible to perceptibly diminish inflation. It made up 2.7% in January-August 2004.

More than $550 million of foreign investments have been attracted into the republic in 2004, and 138 joint ventures have been established, Mr. Akilov noted.
