India is celebrating 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, who incorporated a non-violent resistance and led the campaign for India's independence from British rule.

The event takes place at New Delhi's Gandhi memorial. Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary is celebrated with prayer services and tributes every year on 2 October in India.

Mahatma Gandhi was born in October 1869 and is considered the political and spiritual leader of India and the Indian independence movement. He was assassinated on January 30, 1948.
