New Delhi (Sputnik) — The newborn was one of two premature twins — a girl and a boy — who were born to a couple in the Shalimarbagh area. While the girl was stillborn, the boy was alive and was kept on life support for a day before being declared dead. The twins were taken to the cremation ground to be buried. It was only when one of the family members noticed one of the plastic bags moving that he opened it and found the baby boy still alive, claimed Praveen, the grandfather.

The boy was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where he is reportedly recuperating.

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has ordered an inquiry into the incident and has promised strict action against the hospital.
"It's a shocking incident and the height of negligence. We have started an inquiry into the case. We are also consulting legal experts and the Delhi Medical Council and taking details of circumstances that led to the incident. We will analyze them and initiate action," Deependra Pathak, a Delhi police spokesperson told the media.
Meanwhile, the hospital has issued a clarification stating that an inquiry has been launched against the doctor who pronounced the baby dead. He has been taken off the roster. "We are shaken and concerned at this rare incident. We have initiated a detailed inquiry, pending which, the concerned doctor has been asked to proceed on leave immediately. We are in constant touch with the parents and are providing all the needed support," Shalimar Bagh, of Max Hospital, said in a statement.
