The leaders of the G20 nations, which are meeting in China, agree that the UK's exit from the European Union has increased global economic uncertainty but hope to see Britain become a close partner of the EU.

HANGZHOU (Sputnik) — The leaders of the G20, the world's twenty largest economies, agree that the United Kingdom's decision to leave the European Union has resulted in more economic uncertainty, but hope to see Britain remain a close partner of the block, according to the draft copy of the G20 leaders' communique which was seen by Sputnik.

"The outcome of the referendum on the UK's membership of the EU adds to the uncertainty in the global economy. Members of the G20 are well positioned to proactively address the potential economic and financial consequences stemming from the referendum. In the future we hope to see the UK as a close partner of the EU," the communique read.

On June 23, the United Kingdom held a referendum to determine whether or not the country should leave the European Union. According to the final results, 51.9 percent of voters, or 17.4 million people, decided to support Brexit, while about 16.1 million opposed it.
