TOKYO (Sputnik) – Mindulle spread over the Japanese central districts, including Tokyo on Monday afternoon. As a result, hundreds of flights have been canceled in the country and electricity has been cut off in some residential buildings. Two people died and 49 suffered injuries as the Mindulle, as well as the Kompasu typhoon, ravaged Japan's Honshu and Hokkaido islands.
According to the NHK broadcaster, on the island of Hokkaido, which Mindulle hit on Tuesday, 10,157 people have received the order to abandon their homes.
A landslide caused by the rains in the Hidaka region occurred on the southern coast of Hokkaido early on Tuesday, the broadcaster added.
Over 60 houses were reportedly damaged in the areas of Tokyo and Chiba due to the natural disaster.
According to earlier media reports, the Japanese authorities had evacuated over 34,000 people in Kawasaki city near Tokyo due to the threat of landslides caused by heavy rains and typhoon Mindulle.
