Total of 21 People Injured During Protests in Kashmir
MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Terrorists attacked an Indian Border Security Force post in the north Kashmir's Kupwara district on Monday, the Times of India newspaper reported. During the fierce gunfight one of the assailants was killed.

The separatist Islamist group Hizbul Mujahideen has reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack saying that it was carried out to pay tribute to the group’s former leader Burhan Wani killed by Indian security forces.

The region of Kashmir has been disputed by India and Pakistan since the dissolution of British India and the establishment of the two states in 1947. Some local residents, especially those residing in the Kashmir Valley, call for greater autonomy or even independence from India.

The new wave of violence erupted in July after the Wani’s killing.
