Have you ever gotten sunburned on a summer beach despite having taken all the necessary measures to prevent the harmful rays from burning the delicate skin on your face in the first place with the aid of a beach umbrella of a wide-brimmed hat? Well, with facekini you don’t have to worry any more, The China Daily wrote.

A Place in the Sun: Over Four Million Tourists Hit Crimea's Beaches
Eager to protect their delicate skin from the blazing sun, many Chinese beachgoers of the fair sex  slipped on facekinis complete with body suits for the first time in Qingdao on July 16, 2015.

Even though this bizarre and at times even scary looking attire can discourage some beachside skirt chasers, it still provides effective protection against the tan inducing UV rays while in direct sunlight as well as jellyfish, insects and other irritants while on the beach.

Small wonder, that, as the temperatures soar, the facekini is quickly becoming a fashion trend on many Chinese beaches this summer, according to The China Daily.

Facekini, which comes complete with a body suit, is a protective head mask designed for swimmers and beachgoers which covers the head and reveals only the eyes, nose, and mouth.

It was invented around seven years ago and is now being mass produced and readily available at swimwear stores along the coast.

The mask is made of a stretchy fabric and comes in different colors and patterns. Facekinis are often worn in combination with sunglasses, visors, umbrellas and other sun protecting gear.
