The mangled body of India's 'Golden Shirt Man' Datta Phuge was recovered from a street in Pune city in the western state of Maharashtra.
Police said, “Phuge was attacked by a dozen men who dragged him out of his car, struck him with a sickle and pounded him to death with huge stones before running away.”

Phuge's 22-year-old son was also with him, but the attackers reportedly spared him. Police suspect that the attackers were sent by Phuge's business rivals. Four persons have been detained in this connection.
In late 2012, various newspapers carried Phuge's photograph wearing an intricately designed 22k pure gold shirt which came decorated with six glittering Swarovski crystal buttons and an accompanying flashy gold belt in a matching design. The "golden shirt” has over 14,000 gold flowers intertwined with 100,000-plus spangles sewn on a base of fine velvet.
