TOKYO (Sputnik) — Japan will make every effort in the international anti-terrorism cooperation, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Sunday at National Security Council, held following the Bangladesh terrorist attack.
"In cooperation with the international community, we will make every effort to eradicate terrorism," Abe was quoted as saying by the Kyodo news agency.
On Friday, the Daesh terrorist group claimed responsibility for taking hostages inside a cafe located in Dhaka's diplomatic quarter. The Bangladeshi army said that 20 people had been killed by the hostage takers before the Bangladeshi security forces began their operation to free hostages. Most of these were Japanese and Italian nationals. A total of 13 people were rescued.
According to the country's prime minister, five men and two women were killed, one Japanese man was wounded.
Bangladesh authorities declared two days of mourning in the country.
