MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Bangladesh police service detained some 3,150 people in the last 24 hours, following a wave of violent killings in the country, media reported Saturday.
Since February, a number of non-Muslim worshipers, including Hindus and Christians, as well as secular writers and liberal activists have been hacked, with the most recent incident took place on Friday, when a Hindu priest was almost decapitated.
According to the Sky News broadcaster, the nationwide anti-criminal operation was launched after country's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina vowed to capture every perpetrator of the killings.
The broadcaster added that the majority of the detained were simple criminals, while the number of potential members of militant groups, who claim responsibility for the deadly attacks, such as the Jamayetul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), was estimated at some 65.
