A fuel tanker collided with two passenger buses in Afghanistan leaving 50 people dead and more than 60 injured, local media reported.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — At least 50 people died and more than 60 sustained injuries in a collision of two passenger buses with a fuel tanker in the Afghan southeastern Ghazni province on Sunday, local media reported, citing officials.

"The buses caught fire after the crash and most of the injured people are in a critical condition," a spokesman for the provincial governor, Aghagul Jawid Salangi told Afghanistan’s TOLO News.

​One of the passenger vehicles has reportedly overturned.

Local police launched an investigation into the accident that is suspected to have been caused by unsafe driving.
