According to the Times of India newspaper, the fire has spread over 2,000 hectares of forest.
“At the moment, we have registered about 922 incidents to do with fire, as a result of which six people were killed, including three women and one child,” a spokesperson for the local forest protection authorities said, as quoted in the paper.

According to the spokesperson, seven people have been injured due to the fires.
About 6,000 employees of the local authorities are involved in fire fighting efforts in India, according to media reports. Army forces have also been deployed to help extinguish the flames starting early Sunday. Two Mi-17 helicopters, which belong to the Indian Air Force, are reportedly collecting water from Lake Bhimtal to put down the forest fires.
