TOKYO (Sputnik) – The reports come just days after Japanese Kumamoto prefecture on the Kyushu island was hit by a 6.5-magnitude earthquake on Thursday, followed by a 7.3 quake on Saturday. At least 37 people died and over 1,000 others were injured as result of the quakes.
More medical teams are being dispatched to the evacuation centers, the BBC broadcaster reported, citing Naoki Kokoawai, advisor to the Japanese Red Cross Society.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the number of evacuees in Kumamoto Prefecture reached 104,900 people on Monday. The agency has warned that more tremors were likely to occur in the coming days.
