An all female technology park has been set for development by the Indian government in a bid to create a place for women to in the Indian state of Karnataka. The site will cover more than 300 acres and will create employment opportunities for more than 2,800 women.
"The state government's commerce and industries department has already received 56 applications over the past few weeks from women entrepreneurs wanting to set up shop here. The ventures range from IT & ITeS (IT-enabled services), food processing, textiles, telecom, electronics and others," K. Ratna Prabha, Additional Chief Secretary to Government Commerce and Industries Department, told The Times of India.
The park is slated to be ready by November 2016.
"Today, there's no platform for women entrepreneurs and that's why the state government thought it best to create an exclusive tech park for women," she added.
Women's development has been an Indian governmental policy objective since its independence, with the Modi-led government aiming to boost women's presence in business. By increasing women's participation in entrepreneurial activities, it helps reduce gender inequality in education and employment.
