BEIJING (Sputnik) — Beijing hopes that Pyongyang will comply with existing UN Security Council resolutions, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said Monday, commenting on recent reports that North Korea had launched several short-range missiles into the Sea of Japan.
"We hope that the DPRK will avoid actions that violate UN Security Council resolutions," Hua told reporters, urging all sides to show restraint in the current situation.
Pyongyang’s January hydrogen bomb test, as well as the February launch of a long-range rocket to place a satellite into orbit, in defiance of UN Security Council resolutions, led to the introduction of more sanctions against North Korea by the UNSC.
Last week, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un instructed the country’s military to prepare for conducting new nuclear and missile tests to protect the country against the alleged threat from the United States, despite the UNSC sanctions.
