Two Turkish police officers were injured in an attack by two women on a police station in Istanbul, the city's governor, Vasip Sahin, said Thursday.

ANKARA (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, two women threw grenades at a police station in Istanbul's Bayrampasa district. After the women threw the grenades, they opened fire, and attempted to escape, however, they were blocked inside a neighboring building.

Police cordoned off the area and negotiated with the women to get them to give up their arms for half an hour, after which special forces stormed the building, killing both women.

"During the operation, two police officers were injured. The investigation is in progress, terrorists' identity, as well as the organization to which they belong, is being discovered," Sahin said at the scene.
