MOSCOW (Sputnik) – India successfully launched on Wednesday its fifth navigation satellite IRNSS-1E into orbit, the Indian Space Research Organization said in a statement.
"PSLV-C31 [Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle] Successfully launches IRNSS-1E on January 20, 2016 at 09:31 Hrs (IST) [04:01 GMT] from Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR (SDSC SHAR), Sriharikota, the spaceport of India," the statement reads.
The IRNSS system is said to provide high-precision navigation service to Indian users and to users at almost a thousand-mile distance.
In March 2015, New Delhi successfully launched the fourth IRNSS satellite. In December, Minister of Atomic Energy and Space Department Jitendra Singh said India planned to complete the launch of three remaining IRNSS satellites by March 31, 2016.
