MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The counter-terrorism operation was focused on the eastern Nangarhar province, which has recently become a hot spot for Daesh activity in Afghanistan, and the northeastern border province of Takhar, captured by the Taliban in October, which has been recently partly retaken by the Afghan forces.
"As a result of a joint operation between Afghan security forces and local forces in different parts of the country 25 terrorists have been killed, 15 wounded and 18 arrested," the ministry said in a statement.
Afghanistan is in political and social turmoil, with long-standing Taliban insurgency and other terrorist groups operating in the country, such as Daesh, taking advantage of the instability in the state.
Afghan security forces regularly conduct military operations against insurgents.
