Indian Air Base Under Attack, Four Dead Including 2 Servicemen
MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The gun battle at India’s Pathankot Air Base in the northern Punjab state, which erupted when four to five men attacked the facility, is over, four attackers and two India Air Force (IAF) personnel have been killed, The Times of India reports.

According to the newspaper, six security men were injured in the attack, which started in the early hours of Saturday.

Earlier, The Times of India reported that at least one IAF member was killed and five Air Force personnel were injured in the attack.

According to the newspaper, the attack was launched from a nearby building in a village by men wearing military uniforms. NDTV said that an official car was used to launch the attack.

The attack did not affect the area where MiG-29 fighter aircraft and helicopters are kept at the base.

The incident is believed to be linked to hijacking of Gurdaspur (a district in Punjab state) superintendent of police (SP) Salwinder Singh’s car, which occurred in the early hours of Friday.

Singh was returning from Pathankot with two other people when he was attacked by suspected militants in army uniforms, according to The Times of India.
