MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the Yonhap news agency, Seoul is offering the new aid via organizations such as the United Nations Children's Fund, the World Food Programme and the United Nations Development Programme’s Funding Facility for Immediate Stabilization.
"By helping the FFIS which was launched to assist Iraqi citizens in resettling in a stable manner, we plan to accelerate the return of Iraqi refugees and internally displaced persons to their homes, and contribute to improving the region's autonomy and resilience," the ministerial spokesperson said, as quoted by the media outlet.
In September, South Korea has signed a $1-million partnership deal with the United Nations to support Iraqi regions which had been liberated from extremists.
Large areas of Iraq have been overtaken by the Islamic State (ISIL or Daesh) militant group, which has been outlawed and designated as a terrorist organizations in many countries including Russia.
