MOSCOW (Sputnik) – A military base in the northern part of India was attacked by a group of militants, claiming the lives of two people, local media reported on Wednesday.
According to the Indian NDTV broadcaster, three to four heavily-armed militants attacked an 80-men military base in Tangdhar in the state of Jammu and Kashmir at 7:40 a.m. local time (02:10 GMT).
The militants reportedly fired weapons and threw grenades from a distance, resulting in a fire at an oil depot.
The Indian Express newspaper reported that an army officer and a civilian had been killed in an attack.
The Jammu and Kashmir region has been disputed by India and Pakistan since the end of British rule in 1947. Following several armed conflicts, the two countries agreed to a ceasefire in 2003. Since then, both sides have repeatedly blamed each other for violating the truce.
