US Cargo Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Japan After Fire on Board

A US-owned cargo aircraft carrying a crew of four made an emergency landing at the Haneda airport in Japan after a fire broke out on board, a Japanese media reported Saturday.

TOKYO (Sputnik) — The Boeing-777 belonging to the US delivery service FedEx was flying from Shanghai to Memphis, in the US state of Tennessee, when a fire alarm went off on board, prompting the pilots to land in Japan, the Kyodo news agency said.

The stricken plane was unloaded and the source of fire was found inside a container. It was put out by airport firefighters.

None of the crew members are reported to have been hurt. The Tokyo Fire Department is looking into what caused the container to catch fire.
