TOKYO (Sputnik) — Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has urged the National Security Council (NSC) to strengthen anti-terrorism measures ahead of the Group of Seven (G7) summit in the country next year, local media reported Tuesday.
"Abe ordered that domestic security be tightened for next year's G7 summit in Mie Prefecture, central Japan, and the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games," the NHK broadcaster said.
Abe chaired an NSC ministerial meeting on Tuesday following his return from the Group of Twenty (G20) Summit in Turkey, where the leaders of 20 economies discussed significant issues on the world agenda, including the recent deadly terror attacks in Paris.
On November 13, eight extremists carrying automatic weapons and wearing explosive belts executed a series of coordinated attacks at venues across Paris, killing some 130 people and injuring over 350. The attacks took place at restaurants, the Bataclan concert hall and in the vicinity of the Stade de France stadium.
