The prime minister has also requested an expedited creation of "a new intelligence unit to deal with international terrorism."

Abe chaired an NSC ministerial meeting on Tuesday following his return from the Group of Twenty (G20) Summit in Turkey, where the leaders of 20 economies discussed significant issues on the world agenda, including the recent deadly terror attacks in Paris.

On November 13, eight extremists carrying automatic weapons and wearing explosive belts executed a series of coordinated attacks at venues across Paris, killing some 130 people and injuring over 350. The attacks took place at restaurants, the Bataclan concert hall and in the vicinity of the Stade de France stadium.
