BALI (Sputnik) — A 5.0-magnitude earthquake hit on Saturday the largest Indonesian province of Papua, the Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) told RIA Novosti.
No information about the damage or casualties was immediately available. A tsunami is not predicted.
In Indonesia, which is part of the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, earthquakes and eruptions are frequent due to intense seismic activity.
Earlier this week, a 6.3-magnitude earthquake hit eastern Indonesia. There were no reports of injuries or sufficient damage.
