GENEVA (Sputnik) – On Saturday, a hospital in Kunduz, accommodating some 200 people, was hit by an hour-long series of aerial bombing raids, killing at least 22 people, including 12 Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) staff.
"[The UN secretary general] has called for an impartial investigation. It remains to be seen who will be part of it, whether you would select impartial countries that are not involved in the conflict in Afghanistan… We can’t at the moment predict which countries or institutions he would call on to conduct the investigation," Fawzi said.
Fawzi stressed the necessity to rapidly inquire into the possibility of the bombing being a war crime.
On September 28, Taliban militants seized the northern Afghan city of Kunduz, knocking government forces out of the city. After the reinforcements arrived, the Afghan army, backed by US airstrikes, began an offensive operation to regain control of the city.
