MOSCOW (Sputnik) – "Pakistan Rangers resorted to unprovoked firing," The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) spokesman told NDTV.
The BSF spokesman said the shelling started at around midnight local time in two sectors of Jammu and Kashmir.
"Initially, small arms were used but later on mortar bombs were shelled on BSF posts and civilian areas in RS Pura and Arnia sectors," they added.
Ceasefire violations on the India-administered region continue despite a 2003 ceasefire agreement.
On August 15, six civilians and 10 others were injured in cross-border shelling also attributed to Pakistani troops.
The incident comes against the backdrop of canceled bilateral security talks scheduled earlier this week.
